Overview
Soarvo Mobile integrates with Radio Detection RD8K Bluetooth cable and pipe locators. Pair the RD8K to your Android device and locator measurements flow directly into feature attributes.
⚠️ Availability: Android only, Soarvo Mobile 0.0.112+. Supported: RD8100 and RD8200 (including RD8200SG with built-in Bluetooth GPS).
Step 1 — Pair the RD8K to your Android device
On the RD8K (procedure varies by model — check your manual):
- Set COM to on.
- Set PROT to ASCII, version 2 if available.
- If a PHONE option exists, set it to ANRD.
- In Android Bluetooth settings, pair the RD8K. Each unit has a unique Bluetooth name — check your manual.
💡 Tip: A Bluetooth icon on the RD8K display confirms the connection.
Step 2 — Connect the RD8K to Soarvo Mobile
- Open Soarvo Mobile → GPS management → External Devices.
- Find the paired RD8K and enable the connection.
- Optionally set an RD8K Feature Type to auto-start on each reading. If blank, Soarvo looks for a type named
RD8K.
The connection persists across restarts.
Step 3 — Record RD8K Data in a Feature
- Start a new feature of the RD8K feature type.
- Press the send measurement button. The Bluetooth icon flashes and the reading transfers to Soarvo Mobile.
- An attribute with default code
!RD8Kcaptures the full NMEA string. - To extract a single value, use
!RD8K(n)wherenis the 1-based index in the NMEA string (e.g.!RD8K(13)for depth).
ℹ️ Errors: An error code on the RD8K's bottom-left display indicates a failed reading — check your manual.
RD8K Readings as Line/Polygon Nodes
When recording a linear or area feature, each reading adds a node at your current position. If the project has a point feature type named RD8KNode, an RD8KNode is created at each measurement. RD8KNode types support !RD8K default codes.
RD8K Bluetooth GPS Receiver as Position Source
Some units (including the RD8200SG) include a Bluetooth GPS receiver for RTK corrections.
- Pair the GPS receiver separately in Android Bluetooth settings.
- In Soarvo Mobile, select it as a Bluetooth GPS position source.
- Configure NTRIP with RTCM 3.x-compatible mountpoints.
RD8200SG LED: flashing green = RTK Float; solid green = RTK Fixed.
