Grid generation

Overview

Grid Generation creates a rows × columns grid of linear features with configurable spacing and baselines — for survey grids, dig layouts, or sampling patterns. Secondary features are auto-generated children linked to a parent.

Feature Types Required

• Parent linear — anchor line and parameters
• GridLines (linear) — generated grid lines. Required.
• GridLineIntersections (point) — line-intersection points. Optional.
• GridLineCentres (point) — square-centre points for cell labels. Optional.

Parent Feature Type Setup

Linear feature type with:

• _secondary_feature (short text) — default GridLines
• Rows (numeric)
• Cols (numeric)
• Spacing (numeric, metres)
• Baseline (radio) — Centred, Left, or Base

GridLines Feature Type Setup

Linear feature type named exactly GridLines. No required attributes.

GridLineIntersections (Optional)

Point feature type named exactly GridLineIntersections. No required attributes.

GridLineCentres (Optional, for cell labels)

Point feature type named exactly GridLineCentres with short-text attribute SQUARE_LABEL. To render labels (e.g. A1, A2…): open style settings → click annotation → set Attribute to SQUARE_LABEL → tick Simplified icon and pick the smallest circle.

Mobile Workflow

1. Create a parent feature, set Rows, Cols, Spacing, and Baseline, then save.
2. GridLines (plus intersections/centres if configured) generate automatically.
3. Editing regenerates the grid; deleting the parent removes it.
