Supported data types & formats (overview)
Every file format Soarvo can import, in one place.
Overview
Soarvo supports a wide range of geospatial and survey file formats. Availability of certain advanced formats depends on your subscription — Contact your Soarvo Administrator if a format is unavailable.
ℹ️ Field-captured data: Features captured in the Soarvo Mobile app sync directly into the same Location and appear in the Data Viewer — no upload step required. See Soarvo Mobile App Overview.
⚠️ Note: Files must be in the same coordinate system as the project. Mismatches are the most common cause of data displaying in the wrong location.
⚠️ Note: The file or ZIP file name becomes the layer name in Soarvo. Name files carefully before uploading.

Overview
Data is uploaded from within the Map Window of any location. Only Administrators, Project Managers, and Project Supervisors can upload data.
ℹ️ Capturing data in the field: See Soarvo Mobile App Overview and related Field Workers articles.
Steps
- Open a location from the home screen.
- In the Data Viewer, find the File upload panel (Upload files now).
- Click Upload files, select your file, and confirm.
Upload Progress
- The File upload panel shows live progress as the file transfers.
- The file moves to Processing automatically.
- A green tick ✓ = complete; an alert icon ⚠ = error — check the supported formats listed above.
Tips for a Successful Upload
- File name = layer name. Rename files before upload.
- Coordinate system must match the project — mismatches are the most common upload error.
- Shapefiles must be zipped: .shp, .dbf, .shx, and .prj in one ZIP.
- OBJ meshes must be zipped with .mtl and textures. Avoid spaces in texture filenames.
- Multiple point cloud files for one dataset should be zipped together.
⚠️ Note: Support for all file type variations is ongoing; some edge cases may require Soarvo team review.
