Creating Feature Types

Overview

Feature types are templates that define what you capture on the map — their geometry shape and the data fields (attributes) you want to record. Administrators, Project Managers, and Project Supervisors can create, edit, and delete feature types. Editors use them once set up.

Creating a Feature Type

1. In the Map Window, open the Project Features panel.
2. Click New Feature Type.
3. Enter a name (e.g. Signpost, Manhole, Asset).
4. Click the geometry icon and choose: Point, Line, or Polygon.
5. Set a style (shape or icon) and colour.

Adding Attributes

Attributes are the data fields that appear when you create or edit a feature.

1. Click the Attribute button on the feature type.
2. Enter an attribute name.
3. Click the first icon to choose the attribute type:

4. Click the second icon to set options and choose whether the field is mandatory.
5. Drag the six-dot icon to reorder attributes.

Feature Labelling (Portal v1.80+)

Display attribute values as visible labels on the map. Access via: Edit geometry type and styling → Annotation button → Annotation Definition Panel.
